perfect christmas gifts

The new collection of Return to Sender is now available at HEMA. I saw some pics and already I adore the little baby slipper from Nepal. Maybe I’ll make them a Christmas gift for my little niece.

project runway goes green

Good news needs to be spread. And this is good news indeed! ’Cause finally sustainable fashion has got worldwide exposure. And that all thanks to the often referred as light headed industry, fashion.

Want to know how? Well, ‘Project Runways’ winner Gretchen Jones (season 8 ) is way in to sustainable clothes. Almost all her fabrics are organic cottons, silk, bamboo and soy blends, with low impact and natural dye processes. Her outfits are hippie chic and looking at the picture I can only say one thing: me like.

Do you dig this too? Let me know!

cheap vintage

I’ve told you guys sometimes now how I adore the iElla initiative. But close to home (for me) is another way of getting my dose of vintage. On the Dutch website of Glamour there’s a place where you can exchange your fashion faux and make others happy with your ‘trash’. And to show you that style needn’t be expensive, a line-up of my favourite items:

My first love is and will be heels. And I fell head over heels for these purple leather gladiator highsies from Zara. And for an astounding € 12,50 they’re yours!

Want a cute dress to make a statement? Well, with this red dress you will stand out. It’s from H&M (for only € 20,-) and will make you long for summer nights on the beach.

A great example of great style for almost no money is this navy inspired mini dress. Add killer legs and for € 7,- you have the recipe for a trendy outfit. Not blessed with ever ongoing legs? Cheat with pumps. These black and white heels match perfectly and for € 47,- in total you will have an outfit.

Well I hope you found these tips inspiring. Want to see something in another style? Don’t hestitate to make suggestions!

make a statement

I’d like to be on top of everything, but sometimes golden oldies ain’t so bad. Yesterday I was flipping some pages in an old Elle and I came across an article about Katherine Hemnett. She’s a designer who decided she didn’t want to make any more fashion victims (and I don’t mean people on the worst dressed list). In 1989 she started cleaning and greening up her company she’s known for her CLEAN UP OR DIE shirt.

In 2003 Katharine visited Mali with Oxfam and was shocked. People where starving because their profit went to contracts they couldn’t pay. She decided to start over. With her new company, Katharine E Hamnet (the E also representing ethical and environment), she started over. Now she only produces small collections made with organic cotton.

Don’t you just love such initiatives? I know I do and I can’t wait to see her shirts at ‘Angels Basics Too’ at the Utrechtsestraat in Amsterdam.

more wishes

Window shopping should be on top of my list of favourites things to do. I love making whish lists (of which you already have seen a preview). But every day is a new day with the most wonderful things for a (window) shopaholic. So I’ve rounded up some of my latest wishes ;(

Shoes must be on top of my list. I’ve got some shoes unwalkable and my boyfriend sighs every time he walks by my small collection. But you can’t have enough of a hbh (high black heel), can you? These are by Brain Atwood and they’re going for $280.00. Look here if you’re the Cinderella for this jaw dropping slipper in size 9 (39-40).

One of the things I’m desperately after is a jumpsuit. Some time ago I’ve told you about my mum’s red jumpsuit I so desperately wanted, but last time I saw her se told me she’d trown it away! ;( So I’m looking for a replacement. Hopefully I’ll find something less expensive, ’cause at $150.00 this size 6 (M) jumpsuit by AKA New York is a little bit out of my leage…

not only for women

Today I read a headline saying that Hugo Boss is going green. I was astounded. But when I read on, it became clear that it was just a publicity stunt and that it was about a collection with a golfing theme and that it was only named after the green (the grass on which they play golf). I was so disappointed, and even more so because male fair fashion ain’t that easy to find (at least I haven’t found anything for my boyfriend).

So maybe it’s time to take action and demand the greening up of men’s wear. ’Cause why should green shopping stop at the women’s department?

make your own trashion

Last week was the workshop ‘Van Voddenbaal tot Haute Couture’ (From Trash to Fashion) about which I’ve already written. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to go there (alas, work…) but I’m happy to announce there’s a second workshop with the same theme, held on wednessday the 2nd of May. It’s a little bit in the future, but such things need to be planned way ahead 🙂

Where: Maritiem Museum Rotterdam
When: May 2nd – 13:00 ’til 16:00
Costs: € 5,00 (excl. entry fee)

one week without impact

This week the Fair Trade Week has begun. Now it’s the time to change your ‘normal’ chocolate, tea and bananas for something more conscious.

But that’s not all that’s going on concerning sustainability. November 11th it’s the Day for Sustainability and there’s a fun and simple way to get closer to going green. 7th ’til 14th November it’s the Dutch No Impact Week. Every day there’s a challenge helping you greening your lifestyle. You can enrol here. Not a cheese loving, wooden clogs waring Dutchie? Then check out this link to find more info.
