fair fashion on amsterdam fashion week

I was happy to hear that the Amsterdam fashion week (AIFW) also featured ‘green’ designers. Yes, they might not be as well known as, say, a Valentino or a Stella McCartney, but it’s a start. One of the designers there was Camilla Norrback. With simple silhouettes she showed (as others have before her) that fair fashion doesn’t need to be dull. Okay, it might not be as glamourous as I like, but it’s nice to see. Take a look at the picture and video from her show and let me know if you dig the colour scale or shapes.

how to re-design leather trousers

It’s been a while so I thought it time to post another DIY video. This is one of a very tough challenge: leather trousers. No one wears them these days (okay, maybe Bono does) so why not turn them into something new? Here’s the video:

fairtrade restaurant week

Everyone likes going out, whether it’s having a bite or dancing the night away. But it’s not easy doing it ecoglam. But that’s about to change, because from 25th until 31st October the Max Havelaar foundation and ‘Puur!’ (a culinary sustainable guide) organise the Fairtrade Rastaurant Week 2010.

Want to be part of this? Go to the website to check out the restaurants and select your spot. Then contact the restaurant and ask about their Fairtrade menu. Make a reservation and Bob’s your uncle. It’s that simple!

enjoy sustainably

I had another glam moment today and it was very sustainable. On my weekly round through a second hand shop in Rotterdam I found something every fabulous girl needs: martini glasses. Although I don’t particularly like martini I do like the glasses, for their exotic look and their glam feel. And now I can be ecofab without spending a lot of money (they cost 25 eurocents each) and polluting the environment. That’s what I call a win win situation. Do you look for your glasses or porcelain in charity or second hand shops? Let us know and post your favourite spot!

cooling down ecoglamorous

Had another ecoglam moment this weekend. I visited the Woods in Amsterdam (known as ‘Het Amsterdamse Bos’) where I wanted to see the goats. The sun was shining real strong and I craved for something cool. There I saw they sold ice-cream made from biological goat milk. How fantastic. The ice looked very good and I had a hard time deciding which of the sixteen flavours to choose. In the end I chose chocolate, mocha and vanilla (as I always do) and I had a hallelujah-moment as I call it.

So, when you’re close to Schiphol airport, don’t forget to go to ‘Het Amsterdamse Bos’ and follow the signs to ‘De Geitenboerderij’ where you can find the ice-cream. Everything is EKO-certified (and the landscape is beautiful)! And at the shop they also sell eggs, cheese, yoghurt and other biological products.
